On April 28, 2022, the FDA issued proposed rules to prohibit menthol cigarettes and all flavored cigars. The public comment period has ended for the FDA's proposed rules.
The results of the 2022 National Youth Tobacco Survey show that youth e-cigarette use remains an urgent public health problem in the United States, and it continues to be driven by the widespread availability of flavored products. The survey shows that 2.55 million middle and high school students reported current (past 30-day) e-cigarette use in 2022, including 14.1% of high school students and 3.3% of middle school students. 85% of youth e-cigarette users reported using flavored products, with fruit, candy/desserts/other sweets, mint and menthol reported as the most popular flavors.
